COLUMBARIUM

Since 1963, the Catholic Church has permitted cremation "provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body" (Catechism of the Catholic Church #2301).

Through the practice of interring the dead in church environs (such as our columbarium), Christian tradition has upheld the relationship between the living and the dead and has opposed any tendency to minimize or relegate to the purely private sphere, the event of death and the meaning it has for Christians.

Eligibility for a Columbarium Niche

The Columbarium is intended for the interment of cremated remains of Catholics who are entitled to Christian burial according to the Roman Catholic Church. Registered members of this parish or other parishes in the Diocese of Charleston (permission for other members outside this diocese is pending) with immediate family members have the privilege of licensing niches for their cremated remains.

For more information about the Columbarium at Our Lady of Peace Church, please contact the parish office by email or phone,

msautter@charlestondiocese.org or (803) 279-0315 x. 106.
